But to collect half the population to swear loyalty to a landed estate that they just were at war with is easier said than done.
In the south, their providence survived greatly on the labor of slaves, so with the union forcing the confederates to abolish slavery, southern farmers werent exactly happy campers. Who was going to buy the farm the land? How were they going to harvest enough of their crop to be able to sell it, and still make a healthy profit? All these questions ran through the heads of southern farmers, angering them further.
