The puerile Justice Act was launched in 1986 with the intention of providing partake justice to all adolescents i.e. orphans and abandoned children throughout the country. Eighteen years is taken as the shortcut age to treat boys and girls as children. The Act makes the setting up of Juvenile Justice Boards, Child Welfare Committees and Special Juvenile Police Units compulsory.
Sensitization of Police personnel is given importance. encouragement is given to voluntary organizations engaged in social desegregation of children through adoption and foster care. It also strengthens CHILDLINE a 24 hour free telephone dial service for children in need of care and protection which was initiated in 1998 by the Ministry of affable Justice and Empowerment.
